Mataya Jatra in Patan

Also called the Festival of Lights, Mataya is a day-long procession through Patan's ancient shrines, where thousands walk barefoot carrying candles and offerings. It falls the day after Gai Jatra and honors Buddha's triumph over temptation.

Celebrated at the iconic Krishna Mandir in Patan Durbar Square, this festival marks Lord Krishna's birth with devotional songs, midnight rituals, and temples beautifully lit with flowers and lamps.
